چکیده

Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories, in conjunction with Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems and Sensors and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Advanced Development Programs, performed a set of experiments in cooperation with the U.S. Navy involving collaborative, unmanned surface and air vehicle mission execution. Our multi-domain, collaborative research focused on increasing the ability of unmanned vehicles to be contributing team members in maritime and port security. The unmanned vehicles use intelligent autonomous behaviors, collaborative mission task-based command and control, and human-system interfacing in environments that support limited communications. High-level autonomous algorithms and behaviors remove the need for operators to focus attention on tasking the UxV team. The operators can work from a remote command center as well as in the field using hand-held devices and workstations in a mobile command and control vehicle while performing other tasks. The primary objective is to effectively use unmanned systems to increase overall situational awareness and reliability while significantly reducing human operator workload.

Multi-Robot Interfaces and Operator Situational Awareness: Study of the Impact of Immersion and Prediction

Multi-robot missions are a challenge for operators in terms of workload and situational awareness. These operators have to receive data from the robots, extract information, understand the situation properly, make decisions, generate the adequate commands, and send them to the robots. The consequences of excessive workload and lack of awareness can vary from inefficiencies to accidents. This wo...

The Moderator Effects of Taskload on the Interplay Between En Route Intra-Sector Team Communications, Situation Awareness, and Mental Workload

Recently, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began a program of research to investigate the role that intra-team communication plays in helping radar air traffic control teams coordinate their individual efforts. Based on the literature of controller and pilot communications, it was hypothesized that as taskload increased, communications would increase in order to maintain situational aw...

Situational Awareness During Mass-Casualty Events: Command and Control

In existing Incident Command systems, situational awareness is achieved manually through paper tracking systems. Such systems often produce high latencies and incomplete data, resulting in inefficient and ineffective resource deployment. The WIISARD system collects much more data than a paper-based system, dramatically reducing latency while increasing the kinds and quality of information avail...

Tools for Automated Analysis of Networked Verbal Communication

One of the richest sources of information about performance in networked teams is their communication data. Nevertheless, analysis of communication requires tools that can assess both the content and patterns of information flowing in the network. This paper describes research and development of a set of tools for the automatic analysis of verbal communication. The tools use language technologi...
